Installing our wall mount pool light in a fiberglass pool with no existing hole is a complex job that involves drilling through the pool shell and running electrical conduit. It's generally recommended to hire a qualified pool technician for this task to ensure it's done safely and correctly. However, if you're a skilled DIYer and are comfortable working with electrical wiring and fiberglass, here's a very general overview of the steps involved:
Preparation:
- Gather Tools and Materials: You'll need specialty tools for drilling fiberglass, underwater epoxy, conduit, electrical wire, a transformer (consult an electrician for appropriate sizing), and safety gear (eye protection, gloves, respirator).
Installation:
- Plan the Location: Carefully choose a spot for the light, ideally on a pool wall at least 18 inches from the bottom. considering access to electrical wiring and avoiding pool plumbing lines.
- Drill the Hole: Using a core drill with a diamond bit designed for fiberglass, carefully drill a hole large enough to run the light cable through.
- Run the Conduit: Trench a path from the pool light location to the junction box where the electrical connection will be made. Install the conduit being sure to seal the area where the conduit meets the fiberglass with an underwater-rated epoxy to prevent water from leaking behind the fiberglass.
- Mount the Light Bracket: Align the light bracket on the wall and mark the top and bottom screw hole locations. Carefully drill the screw holes. Secure the light bracket to the wall using the provided wall anchors and screws. Be sure to use underwater-rated epoxy to seal around the drilled holes to prevent water from leaking behind the fiberglass.
- Run The Cable: Feed the cable from the light through the conduit to the SMART Light Control Box if you are installing our SMART wall mount or to a 12V transformer (sold separately) if you are installing our regular wall mount light) and connect the wires. Connect the 120V wires from the SMART Light Control Box or 12V transformer to the junction box.
Safety Considerations:
- Pool light installation involves electrical work and drilling through the pool shell. If you're not familiar with electrical wiring or fiberglass work, it's strongly recommended to hire a qualified pool technician to avoid serious injury or damaging your pool.
- Always follow electrical safety protocols and turn off power to the pool circuit before working on the electrical wiring.
Remember: This is a simplified overview, and there might be additional steps involved depending on your specific pool and chosen light fixture. For a safe and successful installation, consulting with a qualified pool technician is highly recommended.
