Installing a pool light in a liner pool with no existing niche (hole) is a complex task that involves cutting into the liner. It's recommended to hire a licensed electrician for this job to ensure electrical safety and proper installation.
However, if you're comfortable with DIY projects and electrical work, here's a general overview of the process (refer to a qualified electrician for detailed instructions):
Preparation:
- Turn off the pool's electrical breaker and consult your pool's manual for specific electrical instructions.
- You will need a vinyl light sealing kit similar to this. https://www.getpoolparts.com/product/36459/vinyl-pool-light-sealing-kit?srsltid=AfmBOoomo5A5jq9jOeF2Vx6WF6FdxgzpUMjUDqG7caAr7lcYUffc92rovbU
Installation:
- Plan the Location: Carefully choose a spot for the light, ideally on a pool wall at least 18 inches from the bottom. considering access to electrical wiring and avoiding pool plumbing lines.
- Drill the Hole: Carefully cut the liner and drill a hole large enough to run the light cable through.
- Run the Conduit: Trench a path from the pool light location to the junction box where the electrical connection will be made. Install the conduit being sure to seal the area where the conduit meets the liner with an underwater-rated epoxy to prevent water from leaking behind the liner.
- Mount the Light Bracket: Align the light bracket on the wall and mark the top and bottom screw hole locations. Carefully drill the screw holes. Secure the light bracket to the wall using the provided wall anchors and screws. Be sure to use underwater-rated epoxy to seal around the drilled holes to prevent water from leaking behind the liner.
- Run The Cable: Feed the cable from the light through the conduit to the SMART Light Control Box if you are installing our SMART wall mount or to a 12V transformer (sold separately) if you are installing our regular wall mount light) and connect the wires. Connect the 120V wires from the SMART Light Control Box or 12V transformer to the junction box.
- Vinyl Light Sealing Kit: instal the vinyl light sealing kit between the liner and the pool wall to prevent water from leaking behind the liner.
Additional Tips:
- Fill the pool slowly after installation to allow for proper liner settling.
- Double-check all electrical connections for tightness and water resistance.
Remember, this is a simplified overview. For your safety and a successful installation, consulting a licensed electrician is crucial, especially for the electrical wiring portion.
